Day 9: Write a scene with only **** (spoiler alert)
The sound, the brushing sound, it never seems to quit. Gently lets every straw of the new toothbrush caress his gum and polish his teeth to whatever perfection there is left to reach. He’s glory days are over, they’re not yet to come. So he’s been told, and so is he shown. “Aging worthily”, he mutters to himself sometimes, “that’s what’s it all about.” “Hell, I’ve been a smoker since age of 14.”, he says to the young man before him, and further explains the yellow teeth that won’t get whiter. The young man nods politely and smiles. It’s heartbreaking for him to see that the young man smiles without a wrinkle and with pearl white teeth. “I’d like to see myself as a rare bird”, the man begins. “One that doesn’t leave for a warmer climate like all the other birds, when the winter is harsh. I just…endure y’now?“
This time, the young man instead of just nod and smile (gestures very polite of course, but in a way also mocking because of their perfection), said: “Endure, I like that”. He draws his tongue inside his mouth, the tip of his tongue hits his teeth, and he mimics the word, almost saying it out loud but with a deep sigh, a whisper: “Endure.” He stops for a while and says without adding anything theatrical: “Hmm, I like that…that’s a nice thought. No offense Mr., but it seems to me that we aren’t on the same chapter in our lives…given the different age.”
The old man poured himself a glass, a little too much in later years not to raise an eyebrow, but he felt like he needed it “for the pulse and the sake of a peaceful soul”, as he often eagerly explained it.
They look at each other, raising their eyebrows dramatically, both say: “You shouldn’t do that!”
The old man sips his drink, the young man puffs his cigarette, both pointing at each other’s poison of choice.
“Oh, don’t give me that look! Like you ever haven’t…you hypocrite!”
